Members get to shape Sonder strategy, approach, and ways of working by bringing in their unique skills, perspectives and expertise.

A co-operative exists to provide access to economic opportunities to its Members, while not trying to maximise the profits like traditional businesses. Members own the co-operative and represent collective ownership and decision-making.

Membership means a deeper commitment to evolving Sonder, embodying the Sonder vision and values, leading and holding accountabilities in the collective and making sure everything in our work delivers the Sonder purpose.

• Members guide the co-operative’s strategic direction. Members attend a strategy onsite meeting where Members come together and follow up on the strategy throughout the year.
• Members exercise their decision-making power by
  • voting in the Annual General Meeting;
  • electing the Board of Directors;
  • evaluating the performance of the co-operative;
  • and steering the distribution of surplus within the boundaries defined in Sonder’s official legal rules.
• A Member can be selected as a Member of the Board, and hold a Chair of the Board role.
• Members can use their vote to decide who will become a fellow Member in the future.
• Members can vote for Internal investment proposals to influence internal initiatives to support the strategy.
• Members can take part in shaping Sonder’s approach, ways of working, community and business development by taking part in Governing Sonder via Holacracy; holding an organisational role and joining a circle. A member can also choose to lead a Circle.
• Members get to develop Sonder-wide policies and participate in the approval process

Membership is a yearly commitment and new Members will be invited to join twice a year. The next possibility to apply for Membership is in late 2024.

Please note that Membership is not a guarantee of being contracted for paid work through Sonder, and time spent fulfilling Member duties is not financially reimbursed.
